AN ANSWERED CALL
She stands out on the
beach
And knows what cannot be.
She is forever beckoned,
Called unto the sea.
She grew up never
knowing
Why she felt so drawn.
Why was it the sea
Was calling her so strong?
She walks into it
slowly,
As if to test it out.
But it’s too late to turn back now,
She knows without a doubt.
Brushing on her ankles,
It seems to pull her in.
And suddenly her legs
Have become a fin.
Happier than ever,
She turns back to the bank.
With a wave of quick goodbye,
She wonders who to thank.
Finally at home,
She swims into the deep.
While up here on the surface,
The world is fast asleep.
